What's the Holdup? What's the Holdup?

A classic winter shot en route to a sledding hill in Vienna. These wooden sleds - called Rodeln - are minature versions of Santa's finest. They have steel blades attached to the bottom of the wood runners for speed. Of course, like with ice skates, they need to be ground down occasionally to get rid of the rust build-up and make them slick again.

We took these sleds hiking for a few hours to a hut on the top of a mountain. There were hundreds of other Viennese doing the same thing - a real community activity in these parts. We sled down in the evening after a few cold beers. All in all the the roller coaster ride down lasted a total of 20 minutes...but the experience was well worth it. At least I learned how to steer one of these things (a combination of weight shifting, feet as rudders, and rope as a steering wheel)...

Love her facial expression and the colours of the shot.
